What visitors saw
For lunch we went to the nearby seaside resort of Tela where Royal Terns and a Magnificent Frigatebird were seen while we were eating.
This area provides important habitat for an incredible diversity of mammalian species, from the ever-present Central American Agouti, to Kinkajous, Coatis, at least three species of Monkeys (which I saw frequently), and several species of feline predators.
From here we spotted an abundance of waterbird life, including several species of herons, anhingas, kingfishers, some raptors including Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture and Bat Falcon, and Sungrebes!
Upon reaching Panacam Lodge in the afternoon, we were delighted to see the vulnerable Keel-billed Motmot perched in a nearby tree, along with a Gray-chested Dove and a Lesson’s Motmot making appearances before nightfall.
